An eco-friendly, natural coaster made from the Munj grass (Saccharum munja) which grows in the arid regions and alongside the banks of the river Ganga in Uttarakhand. Implementing the ancient Tharu hand-weaving techniques, these coasters are dyed and put together with love and hard work by the Tharu tribe women.
Tharu tribe is an ethnic group of people, indigenous to the Terai and the Northern part of India. One the most nutritious and drought tolerant grass species, the fibre of munj grass is perfect for making ropes, baskets and coaster. From keeping your tables clean, your tea warm, you could use these colourful coasters as wall hangings as well.
