Plate Coaster (Natural Colour)

An eco-friendly, natural coaster made from the Munj grass (Saccharum munja) which grows in the arid regions, alongside the banks of the river Ganga in Uttarakhand. Implementing the ancient Tharu handweaving techniques, these coasters are dyed and put together with love and hard work by the Tharu tribe women.

Tharu tribe is an ethnic group of people, indigenous to the Terai and the Northern part of India. One the most nutritious and drought tolerant grass species, the fiber of munj grass is perfect for making ropes, baskets and coaster. From keeping your tables clean, your food warm, you could use these colorful coasters as wall hangings as well.
